Lagoon

'LAGOON'

42x75"  106x190cm

oil on canvas

The lagoons and pools that occur along the major rivers in Botswana
are often created initially by elephant activity, where elephants push into the marsh to feed on the papyrus and reed beds.  This creates side waters which are wonderful habitats for fish.  the lagoons are often carpeted with waterlillies and are alive with waterbirds.  Here a fisherman is pulling his makoro (dugout canoe) into the lagoon, probably check his fishing nets set out the night before

(this painting currently out on appro to WorldWildlifeFund SA)
